Workshop Overview:
I offer photography workshops throughout the year in unique, contrasting locales such as the Caribbean, the Garden state of New Jersey and the coast of Maine. These diverse locales each have a place in my heart, from the sweeping turquoise-green oceans of the Caribbean, to the lush farmland of rural New Jersey to the intensity of pounding waves on the rocky, rugged Maine coast, beauty can be found everywhere. Being able to share this beauty and love of photography with fellow artists and inspire them to bloom and grow is a passion of mine.
Duration:
I offer half day, full day, weekly, and series-based workshops. Workshops are limited to 6-8 students, which enable me to work individually with each student. It is imperative to me that attention and focus be paid to each student to maximize their experience and learning. By limiting workshop sizes, I am able to balance individual focus and group teaching as well. There is no formal lesson plan for the workshops. Each workshop takes on a life of it’s own and is tailored to meet the group needs, as each group has different interests and skill levels.
Attendees:
Workshops are perfect for the absolute beginner to more advanced students, or for people who would simply like to enjoy a relaxed, guided day of photography in a vacation-based location. I welcome children, as long as they will be fairly focused on learning. Please ask me for family rates. All ages are more than welcome!
Additional Workshop Benefits:
All workshop participants receive a one-year of membership in my private Q&A Photographer’s Forum which will be launched in January 2011. Within this private, secure forum you may ask questions and receive answers directly from me. You may also join in lively discussions with other photographic students and myself about a host of topics. Workshop participants also gain access to my private Flicker group. Within this group, you can post your photos and receive personal critiques from myself and other fellow students. Sharing knowledge and ideas is the best way of learning. Additionally, I like to think of each student as a friend, and like to stay in touch and follow your progress and adventures!
Private Lessons:
Private lessons, consultations and critiques are also available. Please contact me directly for further information.
Culebra Island Workshops
December 22, 2010 – February 1, 2011
I will be offering my workshops on Culebra Island. Culebra is a small, breathtakingly beautiful, 11 sq. mile tropical island located between Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. Culebra has a special place in my heart and my camera. Since 1970, I’ve been travelling there to take in the sights, sounds and smell of this wonderful island. My love affair was so strong; I lived there full-time for 10 years.
This workshop will take you to my favorite “undiscovered” locations to shoot and experience the magic and special charm of the island. Prepare yourself for the finest white sand and water the shades of blue and green. Our photographic tour will continue through the island to many other breathtaking areas. You will learn how to create what you see through your viewfinder into a work of art! Lighting and composition will be discussed and how to shoot landscape and macro shots as well. I like to tailor each workshop to individual needs, so please let me know what you would like to learn!
Two-hour session:
- Photographic field instruction only
Half-day sessions (5 hours):
- Two hours of field instruction, class room instruction and discussion over breakfast or lunch
- Two hours of basic processing instruction and time (or pending the needs of the group, a field session instead)
Full-day session:
- All components of the half-day session plus more in depth field shooting
For sessions including processing instruction, we will cover Photoshop Elements or iPhoto depending on student needs.
Golden Light Hours:
The first hour of sunlight and last hour of sunlight are considered “Golden Light” hours. The light during this time is soft, warm and creates a magical illumination across the island. These are prime hours, and there is an additional fee for sessions covering this period. These are the best times for photography and we highly encourage you to book these times far in advance, as they fill most quickly.
Transportation:
Transportation to the shooting locations is the responsibility of the student and carpooling is encouraged. We may do some hiking to more remote spots, so I suggest appropriate footwear and backpack. Each class is unique, and will be modified to suit everyone’s needs. Meals, snacks and water are your responsibility and please remember to bring bug repellant, sunscreen and a hat.
Boat Sessions:
Photography instruction while traveling the waters around the beautiful island of Culebra is possible and the student is responsible for securing the boat charter. We can recommend Captains that would be happy to accommodate this request.
Overnight Sessions/Special Full Day:
Want something more? El Yunque Rain Forest, Old San Juan, or Vieques are additional photography session options. If you are looking to further explore the area, booking an overnight to one of these locations is encouraged. This island offers so many incredible photography options, please tell me what you are looking for. I’d be happy to provide you a comprehensive list of overnight shooting opportunities.
